Bake Off

Co-Founder
The Quarantine Bake Off is a virtual playwriting competition where participants have 48 hours to write a short play that includes five pre-prescribed elements (ingredients as we call them). Then, a team of 50+ professional theatermakers from around the country read the plays and choose 10 to be presented in a live stream reading featuring young actors. Inspired by Paula Vogel's playwriting bake offs, the bake off aims to provide artists the opportunity to continue to stay creative during times of the COVID 19 pandemic.

As the pandemic shut down theaters around the world in March of 2020, Gus along with friends Nigel Berkeley, Daniel Holzman, and Willie E. Jones III created the Quarantine Bake Off to provide a creative opportunity for other college theater students who were suddenly pushed into zoom theater classes. But, within 48 hours of posting a poster on social media, over 5,000 people from all over the world, of all ages and backgrounds had signed up for the bake off. From there, the group hosted three different bake offs, as well as helped other artists put on their own.

The Bake Off was featured by Adobe in their "Creative Kindness" series, click the link below to check that out! The Bake Off has also been written about in the Star Tribune, the Minnesota Daily, as well as mentioned in the New York Times, by the inspiration Paula Vogel in American Theater Magazine, and many more.
